Three large caliber of the RPG genre coming to you this year. We have three major titles again, scrutinized and compared.
The 2011 is a big year for role-playing is, is already no longer a secret. Dragon Age 2 , The Witcher 2 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will be with us in almost same time intervals through the year. Since it is all three sequels to titles, expectations also rise. Especially since all three studios, namely Bethesda, Bioware and CD Project, no longer have to prove that they are masters of their craft. Reason enough to throw in this special, one more glance at the three role-playing titans who wait on us this year.
The World Game
Dragon Age 2:
While we remain on the continent Theda, but during the previous Dragon Age Origins has played exclusively in the kingdom Ferelden, Dragon Age 2 takes us further north to the Free Marches. It is a loose collection of autonomous city-states, including Kirkwall, the power center of the hero Hawke. The neighboring kingdoms and Antiva Tevinter Dragon Age veterans already know from stories of the first part. Whether we can travel to these two countries is not yet known. The atmosphere in the Free Marches will be dominated by refugees from Ferelden, swindlers and cutthroats, and rivalries of the cities and thus similarly dismal failure, as in the dark of the breeding overran Ferelden. Overall, the style of Dragon Age 2 looks slightly artificial, that is artistically exaggerated. The strong contrasts rather go away from an emphatically realistic representation, to a world that obeys its unique visual aesthetic to strict laws, like Mirror's Edge or Assassin's Creed - But very much harder.
The Witcher 2:
The sequel to the surprise hit The Witcher plays again in the fantasy world of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The game will start in the well-known from the previous Kingdom Temeria. In addition to Geralt Temeria our trips are also run along the river Pontar in the troubled border region between the kingdoms of Temeria, and Kaedwen Aedirn. That gives us hope that the areas are diverse and unique than in Voränger. While Temeria is mostly forested, we can expect to be in Kaedwen rather a rough mountain. As in the first part of the whole atmosphere is again dark, dirty, hard, a harmonious counterpoint to all the frosting-worlds that are increasingly in Asia, especially online role-playing the European sense of taste to a severe test. A style, which is also followed Dragon Age Origins.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Cataclysm:
The fifth part of the Elder Scrolls series will again play in the world of Tamriel. However, the game is not (as the direct predecessor Oblivion ) Play in Cyrodiil, but in the far north, in the eponymous Old Republic - to German: horizon. Already in Oblivion, you can catch a glimpse of what we can expect in Skyrim. In the town of Bruma is always snow, so you can literally feel the cold and the houses are built of heavy logs and earth. The rugged mountainous region will therefore be quite cold, snowy and rather hostile. Skyrim is the homeland of the "north," the hulking man, we already know from the series predecessors and is shaped by the war between North and Aldmer-elves.
The Story
The game tells the story of the hero Hawke, who on the run from the darkspawn leaves his hometown in Lothering Ferelden and so arrives at the coastal town of Kirkwall in the Free Marches. There he rises to within ten years a champion of Kirkwall and one of the greatest heroes in the world of Dragon Age. The story of this ascent is in flashbacks from the dwarf Varric, a companion Hawkes says. Bioware changes to the narrative structure, we slip into the skin of a fixed figure, instead of an Origins story to choose and customize our hero. According to David Gaider (creator of the Dragon Age universe) makes the stronger for an emotional bond between the player and his heroes. And to be honest (and will move in this direction probably Hawke) A Commander Shepard had but a hundred times more than one profile Origins hero who had hardly a few hours after purchase to its origin.
The Witcher 2:
Spoiler! If you have played through the first part of the story and not yet at this point do not want to have resolved, please skip this part!
The story in The Witcher 2 follows on seamlessly from the end of its predecessor. The rebellion of the Order of the Flaming Rose is depressed, only the fortress of La Valette Baroness are not defeated, and the king asks Geralt to help restore peace. Of course, he responds to that request, although he was personally much more interested in who was actually because of the mysterious sorcerer-assassin who tried to kill King Foltest. The group of mysterious assassins is consistently in the center of the second part of action. However, there will be plenty of interesting subplots, such as past and Geralt's quest for his identity. Particularly interesting will be how much the moral decisions and actions of the players will have an impact on history. The very concept drawing of the various options in the main plot, with all the branches and detours,
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim:
The Story of Skyrim is now best be described as nebulous. Known, however, that the action happened to Oblivion and was resurrected with the Dragon is a major threat to the whole world. This threat can be averted only by a Dragon Born. The Dragon Born in the Elder Scrolls mythology originally descendants of the Emperor Tiber Septim, who rose as the only mortal to god, so his descendants are named after the respected as divine dragon. What would also actually mean that each Dragon Born as Tiber Septim himself a man must be. However, it was announced that Dragon Born to be chosen by the gods and thus can be of any mortal race. The player is one of these divinely chosen, but the beginning of the game still in a prison somewhere will be caught in Skyrim.
